A life long fitness and sports enthusiast, Janet became a devoted practitioner of the Pilates method over the course of a few years after taking classes with various instructors in the Capital District area. After years of experiencing sports injuries, muscle tightness and imbalances, Pilates workouts alleviated most of the problems in a relatively short time. Janet became very interested in teaching and enrolled in the Comprehensive Training Program at Power Pilates in New York City and Westchester. She received her certification in 2011.
Janet continues to take Continuing Education Courses through Power Pilates, The Vertical Workshop and The Pilates Method Alliance. Janet is delighted that she is mentored by Master Teacher/Trainer Juan Estrada in New York where she regularly attends his classes. Pilates has allowed her to remain injuryfree while pursuing her love of snowboarding, cycling and fitness walking.
Janet wishes to an inspiration to individuals who looking for a “movement experience” that involves increasing core strength, balance and flexibility. She firmly believes that this exercise method that has been around for over ninety years and is now considered “mainstream” is for everybody and every body.
Plan to arrive to studio 5 (five) minutes before start of class/session. There are no special restrictions on clothing, however it is best to wear workout clothing that isn’t too tight or too baggy. The instructor will need to see the line of your body. Clothing that is too restrictive will be very uncomfortable. No shoes are worn in studio/class. Some people wear specialized socks that have the ability to grip the equipment. Jewelry is not recommended, as it can get caught on the equipment.
Please let the instructor know is there are any physical limitations you are experiencing before the start of class/session. NEVER do an exercise that causes pain. You are responsible for your body, but if you are asked to do something that really does not feel right for you, then it is okay to not do it. This method allows for modifications to Pilates exercises. The beauty of the method is that as you increase your core strength and breath-work, you will notice you notice that you are working more efficiently and with more ease. Enjoy the journey!
